Earth Review

The Walt Disney Studios celebrated Earth Day 2009 with the debut of Earth, the first feature-length nature documentary from its new production banner, Disneynature. This amazing new film is from award-winning British producer/director Alastair Fothergill, whose credits include the Emmy and Peabody award-winning “Planet Earth” series (BBC and The Discovery Channel) as well as “Blue Planet.” Earth takes moviegoers on an extraordinary adventure as it’s never been seen before where we follow the migration paths of four animal families who share our amazing home planet.

A good friend of mine and I have been looking forward to seeing this film on Earth Day for a couple months now and we were excited the day finally came. I’m sure many of you, like myself, have already seen every episode of Planet Earth and may not feel the need to spend the money to see it again. However, I must say it is totally worth the $9.00 plus. Seeing it again on the BIG silver screen, narrated by
James Earl Jones was truly amazing. I haven’t seen the series in a long time and it was really nice to revisit some of those stories again in Dolby surround sound. I found myself sad when the movie was over. I would have liked it to have been a little longer. It ended up being 90 minuets – which isn’t bad – but those stories are fascinating and completely amazing that it could have been a solid 2 hours in my opinion.

This is a perfect date and/or family movie and I highly recommend seeing it soon.

RATING: B+

I’m excited that Disneynature is releasing “Oceans” come Earth Day 2010. In my opinion, I found Blue Planet even more interesting (is that possible) than Planet Earth and I can't wait to see it on the big screen.

Take a sneak peek here.

The jury's still out for me on this one. I can't see spending the time or the money to see what appears to be a documentary. I think I'll hold and at least see it in my theater at home.

As an aside, do any of the animals die during the movie?

Well yeah I can understand that. You’re home theater is pretty nice. But going to the theater is fun too. It'd make for a great FHE activity for you and the kidlets.

Yes, there are some animals that die, which surprised me cuz it's Disney ya know. It was done really well though. GO SEE IT!!

I absolutely want to go see this! I loved planet earth but did not see every episode. Seeing it on the big screen would be fascinating. In response to David's and your comments- FHE at the movies would be great however=- the cost for a family of 5 is a little out of the budget so we'll use our awesome home theater when it comes out on DVD
