Johnny Depp's thoughts on Dark Shadows

Source: MTV

Two of my favorite things are finally coming together – Johnny Depp and vampires. One of my favorite directors, Tim Burton, is directing Dark Shadows, and will start filming this year for a 2012 release date. Along with Depp, this amazing cast also includes the likes of Eva Green, Jackie Earle Haley, Helena Bonham Carter, Michelle Pfeiffer and Bella Heathcote. WOW! This is of course originated by Canadian actor Jonathan Frid in the 60’s TV soap opera of the same title. As we've known for awhile, Depp will be playing Barnabas Collins, the quintessential 200-year-old vampire. Depp, who has spoken plenty about his love for Barnabas over the years, talked with MTV about how he's essentially going to pay his acting respects to Jonathan Frid.

For those that are big fans of the show, I don't think you'll have to worry about Depp overrunning Frid, as I'm sure the two will be quite complementary in their own unique and talented ways. But before we even get to see Depp as Barnabas, we have Captain Jack Sparrow to catch up with again this summer, and somewhere out there is also Depp's latest take on Hunter S. Thompson, The Rum Diary, which has been mysteriously MIA recently. Check the short video clip below.

The Dark Shadows screenplay was adapted by author Seth Grahame-Smith of Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter. Since this has been one of Depp’s childhood dreams, it’s exciting to see it take form. I think he'll do a great job! I can't wait!

What do you think?
