Thor's star Chris Hemsworth is rumored to take the lead male role in Universal's fairytale story, Snow White and the Huntsman. Apparently the studio has fallen on difficult times when casting this role - perhaps it has something to do with (horrible actress) Kristen Stewart taking the lead as Snow White? A huge casting failure if you ask me. Names like Viggo Mortensen, Hugh Jackman, Joel Edgerton have all been attached to the project, but nothing was made official. After Hemsworth led the box office to an impressive $66M this past weekend with Marvel's Thor, his addition to the cast could prove good things for this big budget fairytale.
The retelling of The Brothers Grimm fairytale actually makes the huntsman a more integral character who becomes Snow White's protector and mentor, in order to help her thwart the evil queen played by Charlize Theron (who's been superbly cast, btw). Meanwhile, the dashing young prince will be played by Sam Claflin who will be more recognizable after appearing in Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides out later this month. I acutally like this bit of casting news. I think Hemsworth will do a great job. Don't think I'll see this movie in theaters though, due in huge part to wrongly cast Kristen Stewart, but we'll see.
Another Snow White film is also in the works as well - The Brothers Grimm: Snow White. However Lily Collins (The Blind Side) is playing the princess in that film. It'll be interesting to see which Snow White film will be the better of the two, as both will hit theaters next year around the same time.
