Man on the Ledge Review

-->I’m always up for a high energy, action packed thriller, so when I first heard about Man on a Ledge I couldn’t wait to see it. Will he jump? Will he slip? Is he crazy? And why isn't he sweating more?

Nick Cassidy (Sam Worthington) is an ex-cop turned escape convict. He later does what anyone would do - he climbs out on a ledge in order to prove his innocence, duh! Of course Nick’s true purpose becomes apparent (to the viewer, at least) as the movie unfolds. You see Nick's trying to clear his name of a $40million diamond theft that was pinned on him by slimy tycoon, David Englander (Ed Harris). Lydia Mercer (Elizabeth Banks) comes into play as the negotiator and tries to bond with him in order to talk him down safely.

While all this is happening, Nick’s baby bro J
oey (Jamie Bell) and his freakishly hot girlfriend Angie are engaged in an elaborate heist across the street. Nick is merely the distraction. Huh? Nevermind. This is a ridiculously convoluted heist that involves wriggling through air shafts, dodging alarm sensors and other Mission: Impossible-style feats all to prove Nick’s innocence. They never dig too deep into the story, which is something I wish the writers would have done. Oh well.

There are a ton of loop holes in this thriller, enough for 10 grown men to jump threw, but all blunders aside, this is an otherwise enjoyably outlandish and --> suspenseful thriller high above the streets of New York. And even though it was a tad bit predictable I fully enjoyed my movie experience. I was however, disappointed with the last 4 minutes. The ending was weak and could definitely use some work. It’s almost as if the writers just gave up. All in all, if you don’t think too hard, you’ll enjoy this movie for what it is… thrilling and entertaining.
RATING: B-
