Ah, the Oscars... Nothing like packing a room full of people who have everything and awarding them with gold trophies. Our host, Seth MacFarlane, actually did a good job. I know there was some talk surrounding his ability to pull it off, but he did exactly that. His opening monolog was funny, fresh and captivating. Turns out MacFarline is a triple threat as he sang, danced and told jokes. I was surprised how well he could sing too. As for the rest of the show, there were a couple shocking and of course predicable wins, a few great speeches, a lot of great dance/musical numbers all mingled in with some fabulous fashion. In case you missed the big show (shame on you) here are some must see highlights.
OK, that Flight puppet skit was hands down hilarious. I couldn't stop laughing. And "We Saw Your Boobs" was a great song as well. Loved how he kept going on and on when he came to Kate Winslet. Brilliant. Those dance numbers were something new and fresh too, which I highly enjoyed. Nice work.
And the Oscar goes to...
Best Picture: Argo
Duh, we all knew it was going to win, and rightfully so. I was extremely pleased this took the gold. A truly remarkable film. And I'm happy Ben Affleck walked away with an Oscar despite the fact he wasn't even nominated for director.
Best Director: Ang Lee for Life of Pi
This was actually a surprise win for me. My money was on Spielberg, but Life of Pi was done to perfection, so it's not too hard to believe. This was definitely well deserved.
Best Director: Ang Lee for Life of Pi

Leading:
Daniel Day-Lewis in Lincoln
Jennifer Lawrence in Silver Linings Playbook
Supporting:
Christoph Waltz in Django Unchained
Anne Hathaway in Les Miserables

Say what you will about the actual movie, this performance is breathtaking. It definitely brought on chills.
While I feel each and every one of these fine actors did an outstanding job, Daniel blew the competition out of the water (per usual). Not only did he make history that night, but his speech was funny, genuine and touching. "For my mother." He just seems incredibly humble and down to earth. How can you not love him.
It's a little hokey, but still fun, cute and definitely appropriate.
~Color Me Beautiful~
On to the fashion... Sure, the Oscars are meant for honoring the greatest achievements in film, and while it does exactly that, every fashionista knows it's all about the gowns. The fashion on this night is almost just as important and fun as the movies themselves. Here are my picks for Best and Worst Dressed.
~Best In Show~
Naomi Watts may not have gone home with the Oscar, but she definitely won Best In Show. This Armani Prive gown was seriously a jaw-dropping, show-stopping, stunner. She killed it. This gown utterly blew. me. away. The gunmetal color combined with the one-shoulder, cap sleeved top is so fresh, unique and flirty. Everything about this look, down to the hair and make-up, is done to perfection. I'm seriously so obsessed.
Runner Ups...
Usually I just yawn when Nicole Kidman hits the red carpet, but this season she's been bringing it. And Oscar night was no exception. This edgy, metallic black gown mingled with gold by L'Wren Scott is so sleek and sexy. It hugs her in all the right ways. Definitely a far, far cry from her previous red carpet looks. I absolutely love it.
Kerry Washington dazzled us on the red carpet with this gorgeous pinkish-red Miu Miu gown. The elaborately white encrusted bodice with a darling little bow at the waist was a perfect blend of youthful modernism.
Best After Party Gowns:

~Worst In Show~

Runner Ups...

So you know you're going to win the Oscar and this is apron, ahem, I mean Prada gown you choose to wear?! It's too bridesmaid-y/prom-like. The back is messy and confusing, not to mention the Tiffany diamond necklace is all wrong for this style dress. I haven't been impressed with Anne Hathaway's red carpet looks all season, so I'm not surprised how underwhelming and blah this was. Her after party dress was even worse (ugh). It's a shame your acting ability doesn't mirror your fashion sense.
And now we bid thee adieu...
The floor is now yours. Tell me what you thought of Oscar night? Also, who made your best and worst list in the fashion department?
