Happy 56th Birthday, Daniel Day-Lewis!

Over the weekend, the White House Correspondents' Dinner took place where it's always nice bring on some light comedy. The event is an annual celebration for press who cover the White House and the President of the United States. Here in this video took the time to unveil his "new" presidential biopic to follow his Best Picture nominated Lincoln. No matter what your political affiliation is, this video is pretty funny. We all know transcends his roles to the highest level of art, but we never knew he was this good. It's no wonder he's the most decorated man in Oscar history. Take a look at enjoy.

Day-Lewis isn't one to pound out movie after movie like most actors - usually taking on a role every few years or so. Currently the birthday boy doesn't have anything lined up, but you can bet when he does it'll be nothing short of greatness. Some of my favorite Day-Lewis films include:  The Last of the Mohicans My Left Foot, and  Lincoln.  Still need to see  There Will Be Blood - heard great things.   The floor is now yours, share with me some of your favorite Day-Lewis films...

Happy 56th Birthday, Daniel Day-Lewis!

Thor: The Dark World Trailer

"You must be truly desperate to come to me for help."

Thor has finally returned. Disney & Marvel Studios unveiled their first awesome trailer for Thor: The Dark World, directed by ("Game of Thrones"), staring as the God of Thunder and as his girlfriend Jane Foster. They've made things even bigger and more epic this time around. But we wouldn't expect anything less. I'm certainly glad to see reprising his role as Loki, the God of Mischief. This is definitely turning out to be the year of superheros. This looks cool and exciting. Take a look and see for yourself...
In the aftermath of Marvel’s Thor and The Avengers, Thor (Chris Hemsworth) fights to restore order across the cosmos, but an ancient race led by the vengeful Malekith () returns to plunge the universe back into darkness. Faced with an enemy that even Odin () and Asgard cannot withstand, Thor must embark on his most perilous and personal journey yet, one that will reunite him with Jane Foster (Natalie Portman) and force him to sacrifice everything to save us all. This movie will hit theaters on November 8, 2013 in 3D.

Looks good, right?

Oblivion Review

 photo 0b2adc37-34fb-4b26-bdd2-96329525870d_zpsb3c4aed7.jpg
Oblivion  is the latest Sci-Fi blockbuster directed by , staring and . It's a futuristic movie set in the year 2077. After Earth was invaded by an alien race (or so we're lead to believe), the human population evacuated to Titan, one of the moons of Saturn. Jack Harper (Cruise) is a security repairman stationed on Earth. His job is to make sure the drones are in perfect working condition. In turn, their purpose is to circle and protect what is left of Earth from Scavs, aka remains of the alien invaders.

This film was visually stunning on every account.  It's shinny, glossy and beautiful. It's just a shame the script lacked any real depth or substance. Cruise still gives a solid performance, though, as a man who follows his daily routine, yet seeks the real unknown.  Freeman does a good job as well, reprising his "standard" role as the calm and collected leader. Although, he isn't in the film nearly as long as you'd like.

I really wanted to love this movie, and while I enjoyed it, I felt it came up short of greatness. It posed more questions than it answered, seemed too convoluted for its own good, and provoked more yawns than ahs.  It's definitely a decent rental though.  And if you do see it, it would be wise to lower those high expectations.

Third Spectacular Man of Steel Trailer!

Source: Youtube

"What does the 'S' stand for?"
The third and final Man of Steel trailer (that I will be blogging about till the films release) has finally arrived and with flying, patriotic colors.  WOW!  This is one spectacular trailer!  I'm seriously so excited! It has everything you could possibly want, from its slow building music throughout its intro, exciting and unbelievable action, all mingled with strong emotion. Brilliant. This is certainly a very different spin on anything we've seen in years past from our Super hero. The conversation with Superman and Lois Lane () at the end is pretty rad.  Zack Snyder just might pull off this reboot after all.  Well, with Christopher Nolan as the producer were there any doubts? Enjoy!

A child sent to Earth from a dying planet is adopted by a couple in rural Kansas. Posing as a journalist, Clark Kent () uses his extraordinary powers to protect his new home from an insidious evil.

Man of Steel, the new DC Comics Superman reboot, is being directed by Zack Snyder, of Dawn of the Dead, 300, Watchmen & Sucker Punch. Christopher Nolan is producing, and co-wrote the story with (Batman Begins, The Unborn, Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance). Warner Bros is bringing this highly anticipated movie to theaters on June 14th, 2013.

Where will you be come June 14th?

General Zod Threatens Earth!

Whoa! Message received. General Zod's static message is ultimately meant for Kal El, aka Superman, and should he not comply, people of Earth will suffer the consequences. This 30 seconds clip is certainly different and intriguing. I like it! This message was found on Man of Steel's official site and aired last Sunday during the MTV Movie Awards. If you've been following this movie, like I have, you will you know Warner Bros is pushing this movie in full force, and they mean business. This is actually a pretty cool move on the studio's behave. Take a look at Zod's message from Krypton:

A few billboards in (one of my all time favorite cities) Los Angeles show a brief Kryptonian message, which can be located at At first it shows mostly static, which fades into a countdown clock made out of Kryptonian symbols. Decipher those and it counts down to somewhere around late Tuesday evening. Which will likely be the online debut of the latest trailer for Man of Steel, but it could be something else entirely.
I believe the new trailer will be debuting very soon, and I bet Kal-El/Superman will "respond" to General Zod in the form of that trailer. For full trailer click here

I can not wait to see this movie! How excited are you?

A "Back-to-the-Camera Shot" Supercut Montage

Here's a stunning movie montage for you the feast your eyes upon.  The films in this video are beautifully captured with amazing music to boot.  The song is titled "God Moving Over the Face of the Waters" by Moby. (If anyone has seen Heat, you'll definitely recognize it) I love it when I find these videos. It reminds me how much I love movies.  But this montage, in particular, is not only edited to perfection, but has a pretty cool theme - noting that most every great filmmaker has used this shot in so many cool and unique ways. Interesting enough, the character stands center frame (for the most part), looking out at some epic landscape. Take a look and enjoy!

Pretty cool, right? Which scene is your favorite?

Elysium Trailer Is Finally Here!

"I need to get to Elysium."
The trailer I've been waiting for has finally arrived! Sony/Columbia has just released the highly anticipated trailer for  Elysium, starring plus and directed by  of District 9, (which was a stellar movie by the way).  I've only read about this and seen a few  photos, but now we get a first look into the futuristic world Blomkamp has created. The sci-fi nerd in me loves this kind of stuff.  And while this story has been done before, it still has some fresh and innovative ideas.  Remember this Summer is full of remakes, reboots, sequels, and prequels, so it's nice to see something new(ish) on the horizon.   You'll definitely want to check this out!
Elysium is a story set in the year 2159, about Secretary Rhodes (Foster), a hardened government official, who will stop at nothing to enforce anti-immigration laws and preserve the luxurious lifestyle of the citizens of Elysium. However, that doesn’t stop the people on Earth from trying to get in, by any means they can. When unlucky Max (Damon) is backed into a corner, he agrees to take on a daunting mission that if successful will not only save his life, but could bring equality to these polarized worlds. Be sure to look for this movie on August 9th.

Look interesting?

American Psycho parody with Huey Lewis and Weird Al

Source: Funny or Die
American Psycho fans, you're in for a treat. Please note: this won't be as funny (or even funny period) if you haven't seen the movie staring . Before Bale took the role of Bruce Wayne/Batman there was Patrick Batemen/serial killer. This cult classic is an adaptations of ' book of the same name. It's a strange film, featuring an eccentric bank executive and his secret, murderous ways. And for some reason, musician and occasional actor Huey Lewis and Weird Al Yankovic have gotten together to pay homage to the film. Take a look...

Remembering Heath Ledger

Today we celebrate the life of one of Hollywood's most beloved and talented actors - Heath Ledger - born April 4th 1979. Most fans will remember Ledger for his Oscar-winning performance as the malevolent and sinister Joker in The Dark Knight, in which he blew our collective minds wide open with his take on Batman's archenemy. He forever changed the face of comic-book villains for better and for always, and it will go down in history as one of the best performances of all time. Not to mention his Oscar-nominated role in Brokeback Mountain. That role marked one of the greatest, astonishing acting transformations of our time. I loved Ledger’s work especially his earlier, lighter work — his goofy romantic lead in the teen-Shakespeare farce 10 Things I Hate About You, his sly, tongue-in-cheek turn as a medieval sports hero in A Knight’s Tale and the skateboard pioneer in Lords of Dogtown. He was truly a remarkable actor with an exuberant amount of promise. Heath Ledger lived a wonderful, yet short life and he will without doubt be missed indefinitely.

*You will always be remembered*

I would have to say my favorite Ledger film is 10 Things I Hate About You - it's such a funny movie - and of course The Dark Knight. The floor is now yours... Let me know which Ledger film is your favorite and why...

Disneynature's Documentary Trailer for Bears

Disneynature, the nature documentary part of Disney, sadly doesn't have anything in store for us this year, but has released their next documentary trailer set to release next year, 2014. I absolutely love this Earth Day tradition! I think it's inspiring, encouraging and entertaining. They explain how part of their early ticket sales go to various organizations that protect the environment and its inhabitants. Fabulous! In years past we've seen Earth, Oceans, African Cats and Chimpanzee. Now we get a sneak peak into what's in store next Earth Day with Bears. Take a look and enjoy.

Disneynature's newest documentary features the likes of Bears set in the beautiful outdoors of Alaska. With is stunning coastal mountains and shores they reveal tender moments and entertaining imagery how these animals are far from grizzly creatures. This shooting location provides some of the most spectacular visuals ever for the Disneynature film co-directed by (African Cats) and (Earth, African Cats and Chimpanzee). Be sure to check this out next year on Earth Day, April 22nd, 2014.

The Host Review

First and foremost, I loved The Host... as a book. It was captivating, thrilling, and above all romantic. As a movie... not so much.   The real key to a great Book to Film Adaptation lies in the film's success at concentrating and magnifying the true feelings that readers have when they read the book. It’s having the ability to transmit central messages of the book in meaningful ways, as well as dealing with the time constrained world of cinema. While I felt they followed the book really well, I also felt it was lacking in so many ways.

Director takes the reigns here, adapting the story that goes a little like this: Aliens (called souls) seize control of human bodies. They are peaceful, respectful and extremely polite. An excellent addition to the neighborhood, except for the whole body-snatching business. When souls are placed into human bodies that said person's mind withers away, but not in the case of our heroin, Melanie Stryder (), who refuses to give Wanda (the soul), full mind-power. Soon after possession, Wanda, through Melanie's memories, develops a fondness for her friends and family, and against her will sets out to find Melanie's posse.  All of whom are hidden away in a mountain deep in the desert.

Melanie's uncle Jeb (William Hurt) and his followers (including Melanie's one true love, Jared (Max Irons) slowly but surly accept Wanda as a friend and family member. Later on Wanda entertains the advances of another young man, Ian  (Jake Abel), who apparently finds alien-possessed girls hot.

Watching Ronan having arguments with her inner voice was just trash cinema. I could not get over how awful those scenes were. The movie felt shallow and boring. The pacing was poor, the structure was awkward, and even though Ronan is a good actress, I would have liked to have seen Camilla Belle in the lead instead.  All in all, I felt like a Sophomore did a Senior job.

The Conjuring Trailer

At first glance I didn't give this movie much thought. However, over the weekend, I was able to see this trailer in the theaters and OH. MY GOSH. Freaky! The Conjuring flew under the radar last fall, but it's bound to get some note worthy buzz prior to its July release. (The Departed) and (Insidious) plays a husband and wife team of demonologists and psychic investigators who enter the most horrifying case of their career as they investigate spirits in a New England farmhouse. I'm now officially scared of clapping. Take a look and let me know what you think.

Before there was Amityville, there was Harrisville. Based on a true story, The Conjuring tells the horrifying tale of how world-renowned paranormal investigators, Ed and Lorraine Warren, were called upon to help a family who has been terrorized in their home by a dark presence. Forced to confront a powerful demonic entity, the Warrens find themselves caught in the most terrifying case of their lives. (Saw, Insidious) directs from a script by and . Vera Farmiga, Patrick Wilson, and star in the film which Warner Brothers sends to theaters on July 19th
